Lazy Gal Tonya aka the Unruly Quilter has been one of my favorite blog stops for many years. It was Tonya's color pallets that first caught my eye. Her free piecing or "Unruly" style of piecing and gorgeous hand quilting kept me coming back for more. I'm also a sucker for the photos of her "quilt models" as I like to call them. She has 4 beautiful rescue cats that make regular appearances on top of and under her quilt projects.
The quilt pictured here is one of Tonya's Liberated Letters quilts. I sent her some Dye Candy Sample Boxes last summer and she had this top pieced in no time using the fabrics and some more from her stash. Look for the name "Pokey" (one of Tonya's cats) and "XOXO" through out the top. I love this quilt and what it represents. I'd love to tell you more but that's Tonya's story to share.
A few months ago I sent Tonya more fabric and was thrilled to see a post she wrote featuring the fabrics at home in her stash and playing along nicely with her other fabrics. I get a little bit attached to the fabrics I hand dye and it is always nice to know they are going to a good home where they will be loved...lol
Tonya has wonderful tutorials listed in the side bar of her blog. Her "Free Piecing Basics" and "Free Pieced Letters" (or Liberated Letters) tutorials sparked a lot of interest so Tonya started additional blogs to host challenge groups. Her most recent challenge is the Lazy Gal Liberated Amish Get Together. She is inviting makers to use Liberated Quiltmaking techniques, including Liberated Letters, and combine them with abstracted Amish quilt designs.
I also enjoyed reading her Summer 2008 challenge class blog where she invited students from the blogging community to join in and make quilts using her liberated letters technique. One of my favorite quilts from that class belongs to Quilt Diva Julie "Don't make me break out my flying monkeys".

I have been a fan of Tonya's for years. She was the first non-family to comment on my blog.
Awesome quilt. Thanks for sharing I found my way to Tonya's blog awhile back, but signed up to be an official follower.
thanks, Chris. I posted a pic of your block all beautifully quilted!
When I started quilting and decided I couldn't quilt the traditional way, I discovered Tonya's blog and I haven't looked back.
